ArtSIG Workshop - Wellbeing Zine-making

Event Information

Imagine the anticipation of holding a new book in your hands; the feeling of delight and sense of discovery as you turn the pages and visit meaningful places and moments. Now imagine that book was created by you; a unique, captivating handmade creation based on one of your personal memories and stories.

In this workshop with artist Sarah B Davies, we will create our own mini ‘zine’ (a small handmade book). Participants can choose between filling their pages with expressive text or visual art, or both, through guided drawing and writing activities. We will consider specific memories of a time and place when we felt safe, at peace and/or strong and create a special zine devoted to one of these memories. At the end we will reflect on the process and the potential for zine-making to support our wellbeing at other times and in other contexts. This workshop suits all levels.

Sarah is an artist and arts manager with over 15 years of sharing and developing creative skills through workshops and tuition. Her artistic practice is broad, including sculpture, painting and printmaking. Her work frequently investigates memories and meanings connected with places. More recently she has been exploring book-art including ‘zines’ and experimental bookbinding as a powerfully tactile artform through which to research place and memories.
