"The Therapeutic Alliance over the Longer Term"

Patients often come to therapy with problems that took years to develop. They often developed in the very situations that form our abilities to relate to others and understand our own emotions. As a result, it seems natural that sometimes brief therapeutic approaches will not work. In this conference, we look at the lessons from longer-term work with patients. While this conference would be of interest to medical psychotherapists and psychotherapists from other disciplines, the focus on long-term therapeutic change would also be of interest to general and rehabilitation psychiatrists, addiction psychiatrists, and forensic psychiatrists, among others.

We are delighted to confirm Dr Adam Polnay, Consultant Psychiatrist in Psychotherapy and Sylvia O'Neill, Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist as two of our speakers on the day.

There are two free spaces for medical students available at the conference. Alternatively, medical students and foundation doctors may wish to consider applying for CPS bursaries which are available and also provide for travel/accommodation expenses up to £100.

There is also an optional Dinner Bed and Breakfast rate of £140 available for those that wish to stay the evening prior and have dinner with colleagues on Thursday 26 October 2023. Please note this is for single occupancy. However, we are aware now that prices can fluctuate, so please do check the venue's website direct, as you may get an alternative rate.
