Overview
Join us for a thought-provoking session exploring innovative and culturally grounded approaches to perinatal mental health care. This event brings together global expertise to address the complex needs of women affected by trauma, displacement, and systemic inequities, while highlighting international collaboration in service development.
The webinar will open with remarks and speaker introductions by Dr Saima Niaz, Chair of the Transcultural Psychiatry Special Interest Group (TSIG). The webinar will conclude with a panel discussion followed by a question-and-answer session.
The talks emphasise culturally grounded, trauma-informed, and partnership-based approaches to improving care for women during the perinatal period across diverse global contexts.

About our speakers
Dr. Ayesha Ahmad
Reader in Global Health Humanities at City St George’s, University of London, Dr. Ahmad’s work explores the intersections of culture, conflict, and care. She is an executive member of the Transcultural Psychiatry Special Interest Group and brings extensive experience from research and frontline settings.
Dr. Manal El-Maraghy
Consultant Perinatal and Liaison Psychiatrist at Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust and executive member of the Perinatal Faculty at the Royal College of Psychiatrists. She is actively engaged in international training initiatives and service development.
