As part of Pride 2022, we're holding a free webinar about the importance of bringing your whole self to work.

During this webinar, Dr Josep Vilanova from the Rainbow SIG will lead a discussion that covers key findings from our recent LGBTQ+ research and includes speakers Dr Saul Levin, CEO and Medical Director of the American Psychiatric Association; Dr Bob Batterson, Clinical Professor and Child Psychiatrist at the Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City Missouri, and Adrian Garcia from MHFA England, including Q&A. 

 

Chair: Dr Josep Vilanova, member of the Rainbow SIG Executive Committee

Josep is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Associate Clinical Director in Leicester. He was born in Catalonia and has lived and trained in the UK for the last 25 years. He has a special interest in gender and sexuality.

Speaker 1: Ruth Bolle, Managing Partner of Research by Design, an independent research consultancy specialising in the professional membership sector who also carried out the College’s first member survey in 2021.  

Ruth has a particular interest in the strategic issues challenging membership organisations and making links to wider societal themes of belonging, inclusion and community. She co-authored 'Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Research Report: Progressing the Agenda in Professional Membership Associations' and has written guest blogs and appeared on webinars discussing EDI within the professional membership sector.

Speaker 2: Dr Saul Levin is the CEO and Medical Director of the American Psychiatric Association

Prior to assuming this role in October 2013, Dr. Levin led the District of Columbia Department of Health (DOH), responsible for the health of the nation’s capital, including primary care for infants to the seniors on Medicaid and Medicare, DC-funded health care, HIV/AIDS, addictions, health professional licensing and regulation, policy and planning. Dr. Levin has long been involved in organized medicine and psychiatry. Among other positions, he served as Vice President for Science, Medicine, and Public Health at the American Medical Association. He is a former President and CEO of Medical Education for South African Blacks, an anti-apartheid education trust that provided scholarships to South African black students in health care. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians – Edinburgh, and Clinical Professor at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington, D.C.

Speaker 3: Dr Bob Batterson is a Clinical Professor and Child Psychiatrist at the Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City Missouri

He is a Past Speaker of the APA Assembly and he co directs a Tourette Clinic in Kansas City along with seeing children and adolescents on pediatric units and in his clinic. He will be speaking at the upcoming RCP International Congress in Edinburgh.

Speaker 4: Adrian Garcia, MHFA England lead for the Higher Education sector and founder and chair of Project Pride - MHFA England's LGBTQIA+ Employee Resource Group.

Adrian is a public speaker and consultant with 8+ years of experience talking to international audiences on various intersectional aspects of mental health. Adrian has spent the last 5 or so years concentrating on issues faced by the diverse LGBTQIA+ community, especially on the importance of Pride celebrations, creating and maintaining safe equitable spaces for employees, and recognizing the importance of celebrating employees' whole intersectional selves.
