10am: Archives open exclusively for meeting – Registration , Tea and Coffee
10.25am: Introduction
10.30am: Dr Peter Carpenter: “George Wallett – Rogue or entrepreneur”
George Wallet is generally known as the doctor who followed Haslam in Bethlem and was dismissed for corruption. What is now known from archives is his involvement with 4 county and 2 private asylums as well as two other professions.
Dr Carpenter a retired psychiatrist and keen medical historian
11.00am: Prof Nicol Ferrier: ‘Studying Mortality in Victorian Asylums’
Prof Ferrier talks about his PhD study on asylum archives.
11.30am: Refreshment break
11.50am Richard Johnson: Dr Hills and Norfolk County Asylum
Richard Johnson is Project historian for the ‘Scaling up Change Minds’ project. He researched the history of Dr Hill and his therapeutic regime at Norfolk Asylum and his work led to the performance ‘Dr Hill’s Casebook’ on YouTube]
12.30pm: Francis Maunze – the College Archives
12.40pm: Hospital Archivist – the LMA medical history collection – an overview
1pm: Lunch
1.45pm: tour of the archives
and example archives with Hospital archivist available to answer questions about the LMA hospital collection
2.45pm: Panel discussion – revising past reputations – whose standards should we use?

3.30pm: review of day
