PIPSIG Annual Winter Conference:
Starting out in independent practice

Event Information

There has never been so much interest in the diversification of one’s consultant career. More and more, psychiatrists are looking beyond ‘the norm’ and pursuing a different route outside the NHS. Whether it be a part time option, a few hours a week to sustain consultants enough to continue in their usual NHS role (without burning out or relocating to Australia) or a complete change of direction into independent practice, it can be a daunting experience to take those first few steps.

This conference will help those considering a move into independent practice with practical advice, across a range of working options, given by a variety of consultant peers who have all been through it. We shall also have the opportunity to hear from external speakers, expert in their knowledge of some of the supportive structures that can help independent practitioners.

Whether it be uncertainty about the CQC, tax, appraisal, revalidation, being self employed, charging patients, working for a private organisation, or doing medicolegal work, we shall have something for you to help reduce your anxiety, and encourage your creativity and optimism about a fulfilling independent career.

This conference will be suitable for existing consultants and higher trainees curious about life and opportunities outside the NHS.

This event is in-person only. Unfortunately it won't be recorded, nor will it be possible to view it online.

The event will take place at the Royal College of Psychiatrists, 21 Prescot Street, London E1 8BB. Take a look at a map and directions to help plan your journey.

The Citymapper website/app can help you plan your route within London, giving the best walking, cycling, bus and tube routes available. Use postcode E1 8BB as your destination
