We are delighted to announce the following speakers for the first session of the Professional skill masterclasses:

Dr Amar Shah - Consultant forensic psychiatrist and Chief Quality Officer at East London NHS Foundation Trust

Dr Amar Shah is Consultant forensic psychiatrist and Chief Quality Officer at East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT). He leads at executive and Board level at ELFT on quality, performance, strategy, planning and business intelligence. Amar has led the approach to quality at ELFT for the past 10 years, and has embedded a large-scale quality improvement infrastructure and quality management system, with demonstrable results across key areas of organisational performance.

Amar is the first National Clinical Director for Improvement at NHS England, leading the application of improvement across England’s health and care system.

He is the national improvement lead for mental health at the Royal College of Psychiatrists, leading a number of large-scale improvement collaboratives on topics such as restrictive practice, workforce wellbeing and equalities.

Amar is chair of the Scientific Advisory Group at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), and also acts as faculty with IHI, teaching and guiding improvers and healthcare systems across the world.

He is a member of the Q advisory Board at the Health Foundation and a member of the reference group for the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare. He is on the health advisory board for the UCL global business school for health, and a Council member for the Healthcare Costing for Value Institute.

He is honorary visiting professor at City University (London) and the University of Leicester. Amar has completed an executive MBA in healthcare management, a masters in mental health law and a postgraduate certificate in medical education. Amar is a regular national and international keynote speaker at healthcare improvement conferences and has published over 50 peer-review articles in the field of quality management.

Dr Asif Bachlani – Consultant Psychiatrist and Clinical Lead for the Autism/ASC pathway at Priory Woking Hospital

Asif is also an Associate Non-Executive Director (NED) for Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust with his portfolios being data and digital. Asif has held various managerial and digital positions in NHS and independent sector including Clinical Director, Clinical Lead for Mental Health Outcomes and Chief Clinical Information Officer.

Asif has also been the NHS London Clinical Lead for Mental Health Outcomes for two years (2017-19). In this role, In this role, Asif has co-authored various policy documents and papers around data and digital include NHS London Introduction to HoNOS, the HoNOS analytical framework and Healthy London Partnership Development of Primary Care Mental Health Models.

Asif has had an interest in clinical value of data and data literacy for clinicians. Asif set up 1st ever data events for clinicians initially regionally in 2018 and then nationally from 2019 via RCPsych Better Data, Better Care series of conferences which is now in its 5th year. Asif was also one of co-authors of a two-part series on digital literacy in contemporary mental healthcare in RCPsych Advances (2022).

Within the RCPsych, Asif is leading the work on data and digital literacy for all grades of psychiatrists. Within this work stream, Asif is the:

  • lead co-author of the RCPsych Data and Digital Literacy Competencies for all Psychiatrists which was launched in March 2023.
  • co-lead for the Digital Module of RCPsych LMFS
  • creator and developer of the RCPsych Digital Team of the year launched in 2023.
  • developer of the Diploma Programme for Psychiatrists on Digital and Data Literacy.

Dr Lade Smith CBEDr Lade Smith CBE - RCPsych President

Dr Shubulade (Lade) Smith was elected President of the RCPsych in 2023. She holds this role until 2026 and leads RCPsych on behalf of its members and associates.

Lade is a Consultant Psychiatrist at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and Visiting Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, Kings College London.

Until July 2023, Lade was the Clinical and Strategic Director of the National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health at the RCPsych, providing medical leadership for the team developing mental health guidelines.

Lade was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in June 2019 for services to Forensic Intensive Psychiatric care. In November 2019 she was awarded Psychiatrist of the Year by the RCPsych.

Lade’s priorities as President are:

Nurturing and Supporting Psychiatrists: so we can retain and strengthen our workforce.

  • Addressing the Treatment Gap: fight for resources to deliver therapeutic care.
  • Fairness for all: tackling inequality for patients and staff, and,
  • Raising the profile of psychiatry.

Do I need to book the full webinar series, or can I book each webinar individually?

Each session is available to book as an individual webinar. If you book and pay for an individual webinar you will receive a link to watch this live and will receive the recording for this one session. We also have the option to book the full series which will give you access to all four individual webinars and the recordings with a 10% discount.

Will all four webinar episodes will be available on 6 March?

No. Only session one will run on 6 March. The next two episodes will run on two separate dates in April and October.

What are the dates and topics for each webinar session?

  • Masterclass 1 – 6 March 2024 – QI, Research and Use of Data in Clinical Practice.
  • Masterclass 2 – 18 April 2024 – Time Management.
  • Masterclass 3 – 2 October 2024 – Managing Conflicts at Work.

How long will each session recording be available to watch on demand?

All recordings will be available to watch on demand until 4 December 2024.

I've booked and paid for the full series but one or more sessions have already passed. How do I gain access to the recordings?

Once you have booked the full series, please email division.events@rcpsych.ac.uk and we will send you the links to access the recordings of any previous sessions.

Will the recording be available as soon as the session is finished?

No. The recordings are distributed via email with a specific link and passcode. These are emailed out within 1 week of the event. Please do not schedule CPD time expecting to receive the recording link the same day.

I booked and paid for one individual session but would now like to book for the remaining two. Do I need to pay for each individually or am I entitled to a discount?

We can offer you a discounted rate if you would like to purchase additional masterclass sessions. Please contact division.events@rcpsych.ac.uk and we can arrange this for you.

If I book all three sessions, will I receive a certificate for each session I attend, or will this be sent once all four sessions have taken place?

You will receive an individual certificate for each session after it has taken place. Certificates are sent out via email within two weeks of the event date. Please ensure the email address linked to your membership account is up to date otherwise you may not receive it.

Can I pay to gain access to the recording of an individual session I missed?

No. We only offer retrospective bookings for the full series.
