A successful hybrid event and our plans for future events

We have just delivered our most complicated hybrid event ever – with up to four concurrent streams each day, 350 delegates from around the world, and 54% of delegates taking part remotely.

The event – Recovery from Mental Illness: Challenges and Solutions from Across the Globe – was our twenty-third hybrid event since we launched our new blended model of service delivery, as a college, in February, when COVID-19 lockdown restrictions were lifted.

Among other high-profile speakers, President Dr Adrian James and President-elect Dr Lade Smith CBE addressed the hybrid conference, which was held between 16-18 January, at 21 Prescot Street.

The event was organised by the College’s Faculty of Rehabilitation and Social Psychiatry, along with the World Association of Social Psychiatry (WASP).

The College has now been running a blended model for 12 months – and during 2022 delivered:

  • 310 online ceremonies and events
  • 66 face-to-face ceremonies and events
  • 22 hybrid ceremonies and events.

Our events in 2022 were attended by a total of 39,341 attendees both online and in-person, both live and on-demand.

While the delivery of our new blended model has been a success, it has become increasingly clear over the last 12 months how challenging it can be to consistently deliver high-quality hybrid events – as well as formal, set-piece, hybrid committee meetings – in terms of the resource and IT support required.

As a result, to ensure that our hybrid events and formal meetings are always delivered to an excellent standard, we now have a hybrid permissions gateway – whereby our hybrid delivery staff need to give consideration to the requirements of each potential hybrid event or meeting before a green light can be given to the idea.

In some cases, the proposed event or formal meeting may best be delivered in-person or fully online.

If you have any queries about how your College event or formal meeting could best be delivered, please email av.support@rcpsych.ac.uk.
