New Editors-in-Chief for BJPsych Advances and BJPsych International

We are pleased to announce the appointment of the new Editors-in-Chief joining the BJPsych Journals portfolio.

Dr Asit Biswas and Dr Marinos Kyriakopoulos join as Editors-in-Chief of BJPsych Advances and BJPsych International respectively.

BJPsych Advances: Professor Asit Biswas

Professor Asit Biswas has been appointed the BJPsych Advances Editor-in-Chief following the leadership of Professor Patricia Casey, who oversaw the journal for 10 years.

Asit Biswas is a Consultant Psychiatrist with the Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, UK and Honorary Professor, University of Leicester, UK.

Professor Biswas has served the RCPsych in various roles over the past 25 years, including Vice Chair and Academic secretary – Intellectual Disability Faculty, CPD Committee Chair – Trent Division, MRCPsych examiner and has helped develop CPD modules.

He has also been College Tutor, Training Programme Director and Specialty Advisory Committee Chair (LD), and has worked with the General Medical Council on curriculum development and PMETB on ‘Patients’ Role in Healthcare’, on behalf of the RCPsych. His research interests include neurodevelopmental disorders including intellectual disability, Autism and ADHD. He has presented and published widely and is an international expert in the field.

Professor Biswas said:

"I am delighted to take up the role of Editor-in-Chief, BJPsych Advances, as the baton passes on to me from my acclaimed predecessor Professor Patricia Casey, who provided so much impetus and value to BJPsych Advances over ten years and am grateful for her guidance during my time on the editorial board.

“I will strive promoting excellence, RCPsych values and the global reach of BJPsych Advances, establishing it as the go to journal, for practical and comprehensive clinical updates for consultant psychiatrists and mental health professionals, thereby meeting their continuous professional development needs for providing best care to our patients.”

BJPsych International: Dr Marinos Kyriakopoulos

Dr Marinos Kyriakopoulos has been appointed the BJPsych International Editor-in-Chief, following the leadership of Professor David Skuse who oversaw the journal for 10 years.

Dr Kyriakopoulos is a child and adolescent consultant psychiatrist and works at the National and Specialist Acorn Lodge Inpatient Children’s Unit of South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

He is also a visiting senior lecturer in child and adolescent psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London.

He holds an adjunct assistant professor position at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, USA and an honorary consultant position at the Tourette Syndrome Clinic, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. He has a special interest in autism spectrum conditions, early-onset psychotic disorders, developmental neuropsychiatry and psychopharmacology.

Dr Kyriakopoulos said:

In these changing times, the journal has a unique role to play in sharing, promoting, and shaping excellent practice in mental health across the world. It is an honour to work with an editorial board of amazing expert colleagues to achieve these goals.”

We thank Professor Patricia Casey and Dr David Skuse for their respective leadership on BJPsych Advances and BJPsych International over the years. We look forward to working together with Dr Biswas and Dr Kyriakopoulos.
