Understanding intellectual disability and mental health information

We are asking our members who work with people with intellectual disabilities (ID) and their carers to kindly complete a five-minute survey to help us understand the information gaps for people with ID.

The College is developing new information resources to support people with intellectual disabilities, their carers and their wider support networks to understand the unique way mental health conditions can present and impact their lives.

To do this we are gathering the views of patients, their support network and professionals as to what good resources are available and where the gaps may be that we can fill.

We want to get as many responses as possible so that the College can effectively signpost to existing high quality resources and develop new resources where needed.

We’re hoping the College website can then serve as an excellent hub of accessible information that will be useful to patients, carers and professionals.

We’re asking members to:

  • if applicable, complete the short survey
  • forward the survey to your networks and as many of your colleagues in the multi-disciplinary team as possible
  • encourage patients and carers to complete the survey (the survey splits depending on if you are a professional or not)
  • print and display a poster sharing information on the survey in your service. You can find a downloadable copy of this poster on our website.

The survey is confidential and the results will be used to develop new information resources and to update our intellectual disabilities resource so it can become a useful resource for patients, carers and professionals.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding the survey, please get in contact with david.anderson41@nhs.net or holly.dbollard@rcpsych.ac.uk.
