Patient or Carer Representative x2 Quality Improvement in Tobacco Treatment (QuITT) QI Collaborative

The Royal College of Psychiatrists is seeking two patient and carer representatives to join the Quality Improvement in Tobacco Treatment (QuITT) QI Collaborative and the evaluation of the Tobacco Dependency Treatment Services project team as Workers. The successful applicants will be:

  • Smokers or have only recently given up smoking, and/or have experience of accessing inpatient or community mental health services. 

OR

  • Experience of caring for someone who is a smoker, someone who has only recently given up smoking, and/or someone who has experience accessing inpatient or community mental health services.
The Patient and Carer Representatives will be integral members of the project team, working to engage the wider collaborative and partner organisations in advocating for inpatients in mental health wards who seek to stop smoking.

The focus of the project is to work with every NHS Mental Health Trust in England to establish inpatient tobacco dependency services and increase the number of patients in tobacco treatment using quality improvement (QI) methodology. You can read more about the project on our web pages.

The Patient Carer Representatives are expected to attend and contribute to project meetings (virtual) and collaborate with the project team to complete pieces of work, such as input into consultation documents and materials. The patient and carer representatives will also be expected to attend all project learning sets (in person at the Royal College of Psychiatrists in London) and workshops (virtual).

This is an excellent opportunity for patients and carers to contribute their perspectives on important mental health issues regarding tobacco dependency and be part of our ongoing strategy and communications development.

Time Commitment

All project team meetings will be held online and facilitated via MS Teams. Learning sets will take place in person at the Royal College of Psychiatrist’s office in London or another nearby venue. The following dates have been scheduled for 2024.

  • Learning Sets (in person)
    • Tuesday 23 January 2024, 9.30am-4pm
    • Tuesday 26 March 2024, 9.30am-4pm
    • Tuesday 11 June 2024, 9.30am-4pm
    • Tuesday 10 September 2024, 9.30am-4pm
    • January 2025 -  date to be confirmed
  • Workshops (virtual)
    • Four (quarterly) one-hour sessions in 2024, dates and times to be confirmed
  • QuITT Supervision Meetings (virtual)
    • Monthly, one-hour duration, dates set in advance
  • Ad-hoc team meetings
