Emeritus professor of forensic psychiatry at King's College London, a founder member of the Royal College and an honorary fellow. Royal College activities have included membership of Council, membership of the Court of Electors, Deputy Chief Examiner, chairman of the Research Committee and chairman of the Faculty of Forensic Psychiatry.

Work at the Institute of Psychiatry included the clinical directorship of the forensic psychiatry clinical services, chairman of the academic board, chairman of the library and co-editorship of a textbook of forensic psychiatry. Research focussed on violence and prisoner health. Public service included advice to the House of Commons, membership of the Royal Commission on Criminal Justice and membership of several charities. Overseas interests included founding a European group of forensic psychiatrists.

I have recently set up a charity, Crime in Mind, to raise funds for academic forensic psychiatry.
