Professor Stephen Lawrie

Stephen Lawrie is a Professor of Psychiatry in Edinburgh, mainly interested in schizophrenia. He remains clinically-active in a geographical sector-based service.   He has published more than 400 articles in peer-reviewed journals, many of which have been highly cited (Web of Science h-index is >75, with >20,000 citations; Google Scholar >100 and >40, 000), including notable contributions in applying cutting-edge neuroimaging techniques to elucidate the neurobiology of schizophrenia, differentiate major psychiatric disorders and developing multi-centre neuroimaging biomarker assays in the context of clinical trials. These achievements have been recognized in Fellowships of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology and the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Latterly as Beltane Public Engagement Fellow he has also been active in public engagement activities, including stand-up (!), and has co-authored ‘The Beginners Guide to Sanity: a self-help book for people affected by psychosis’ with Erica Crompton, which was shortlisted for the People’s Book prize.
