National Recruitment and Selection Processes Task and Finish Group

The College’s National Recruitment and Selection Processes Task and Finish Group continues to review selection methods for Core Psychiatry Training, considering both efficacy and operational feasibility of any proposed changes.

Recent developments including the proposed Medical Training (Prioritisation) Bill are likely to affect who can apply and competition ratios for core training posts. It remains important to retain confidence that we are able to select the best future psychiatrists to enter core training.

National recruitment is managed by NHS England, and it is NHSE that is responsible for selecting and implementing appropriate recruitment methods.

The group is reviewing evidence around the current recruitment method (MRSA- only) and possible alternatives, including their operational feasibility. It will offer evidence-based recommendations to the Medical and Dental Recruitment and Selection (MDRS) board for implementation in future recruitment rounds.

The Task and Finish Group comprises key College members with relevant expertise and representation from the Psychiatric Resident Doctors’ Committee (PRDC).

The group’s Terms of Reference are available on the College website, where FAQs on national recruitment and training places have also previously been published.
