What is the Quality Network for Inpatient Learning Disability Services?

The Quality Network for Inpatient Learning Disability Services (QNLD) aims to support wards to evaluate and improve their management processes and standards of care. It engages staff and service users in a comprehensive process of review against an agreed set of standards which are developed based on best practice guidelines, expert opinion and research. Services are supported to identify areas for improvement and set achievable targets for change, using a pathway of self appraisal and peer review which includes the perspectives of management, staff teams, service users and carers.

The network also provides accreditation for services which are deemed to have met the majority of the standards, usually following the completion of at least one year of network membership. Accreditation demonstrates the ward's commitment to quality improvement, high standards of care and inclusion of service user and carer perspectives. It is recognised by a number of professional and regulatory bodies as a sign of quality and provides an informal evidence base for CQC inspections.
