Dr Niruj Agrawal

Dr Agrawal is a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist with a particular interest in the neuropsychiatric consequences of traumatic brain injury, functional neurological disorders and neuropsychiatric disorders following neurological conditions. He has been a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist at the South West London and St George’s Mental Health Trust since 2003.  He is the clinical lead for the regional neuropsychiatry services to the Atkinson Morley Regional Neurosciences Centre based at the Atkinson Morley Wing of St George’s Hospital, London.  His team provides neuropsychiatry assessment and treatment to patients with a wide range of neuropsychiatric conditions, including brain injury, from South West London and Surrey.  He provided neuropsychiatry consultant input for 12 years to the Wolfson Neurorehabilitation Centre, London.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (FRCPsych), a member of the British Neuropsychiatric Association, International Brain Injury Association, and is Secretary General of International Neuropsychiatric Association. He has additional qualifications of Doctor of Medicine in Psychiatry (MD) and Master of Science in Psychological Medicine (MSc) with distinction. He is approved in accordance with Section 12 (2) of the Mental Health Act (2007). He is also trained in preparation of medico-legal reports and medical ethics. He has Cardiff University Law School Bond Solon Civil Expert Certificate qualification. He regularly prepares medicolegal reports in civil litigation, particularly in the areas of personal injury and medical negligence and receive instructions from claimants’ and defendants’ solicitors.

He is a member of the executive committee of the Faculty of Neuropsychiatry (FoN) at the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the International Neuropsychiatric Association. He was the Vice Chair of the Faculty of Neuropsychiatry at the Royal College of Psychiatrists for six years and was the national lead for neuropsychiatry curriculum development and was FoN representative at the Neurosciences CRG, leading on development of neuropsychiatry service specification. He has been a member of the Examinations Committee of the Royal College of Psychiatrists since 2008, involved in setting and monitoring of theory and clinical postgraduate exams in Psychiatry (MRCPsych exam) in the UK. He is on the editorial board of BJPsych Open and BJPsych Advances.  He is regularly involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students and other professionals on a range of neuropsychiatric topics. he has published over 80 peer reviewed scientific papers and book chapters. He is the lead co-editor of the new Oxford Textbook of Neuropsychiatry.
