The Royal College of Psychiatrists is seeking 2 Patient Representatives and 2 Carer Representatives to join the Policy and Public Affairs Committee (PPAC) as Workers.  The successful applicants will have recent lived experience of mental health services or caring for someone with mental illness.

The Patient Representatives and the Carer Representatives will be integral members of the committee working with the chair and secretariat, to ensure that the patient and carer voices are heard and influence the eventual conclusions of the Committee on relevant mental health issues.

The focus of the PPAC is to support the College in identifying issues where a College policy is needed and once it is determined that it is, the Committee is responsible for identifying an appropriate mechanism by which that policy might be taken forward.

Policy and Public Affairs Committee

The PPAC meets three times a year, once in person in London and twice via Teams to discuss a range of policy related issues that the Committee needs to be aware of or take a view on.  The majority of the committee are psychiatrists from across the UK.

The Patient and Carer Representatives are expected to attend and contribute to the executive committee meetings and collaborate with committee members as needed on identified pieces of work. Opportunities arise for involvement with the annual conference, communications, and the media.

The Patient Representatives and Carer Representatives must have access to their own electrical equipment to attend meetings as well as Wi-Fi connection.

RCPsych has developed a high media profile and is a leading organisation in terms of equality and diversity. It was a recent winner of Charity of the Year at the European Diversity Awards. This is an excellent opportunity for patients and carers to contribute their perspectives on important mental health issues and be part of our ongoing strategy and communications development.
