We are delighted to announce the following speakers will be joining us for the West Midlands Winter Webinar:

 

West Midlands Clinical audit / Quality improvement Prize Winner: The winner of the Clinical audit / Quality improvement Prize will also be invited to present their work at the West Midlands Winter Webinar.


Dr Louise Newson:  Louise is a GP, a leading UK menopause specialist and the Founder and Clinical Director of the largest menopause clinic in the world, Newson Health Ltd, based in Stratford-upon-Avon.  She is also an advisor to the NHS, is on the Clinical Steering Committee for NHSEI’s Menopause Improvement Programme and is a member of the Government’s newly formed Menopause Taskforce. Louise is involved in research with colleagues in Warwick, Oxford, UCL, Bath, University of Warwick, Liverpool Universities and London School of Tropical Medicine. Her Confidence in the Menopause educational programme, www.fourteenfish.com/menopause/welcome, was launched to provide free training for anyone with an interest in menopause and menopause treatment pathways. 

Louise developed the free menopause app “balance”, www.balance-app.com together with www.balance-menopause.com with the mission to make menopause support inclusive and accessible to everyone, globally. The website and app provide key evidence-based information for women and healthcare professionals.  Louise is also the Founder and a Trustee for The Menopause Charity, www.themenopausecharity.org, which works to improve women and healthcare professionals’ understanding of the menopause. 

Louise has contributed to menopause related articles across all media and is This Morning’s resident menopause expert. Louise also hosts a weekly podcast for women and has written two books, The Haynes Menopause Manual, and Preparing for the Perimenopause and Menopause which was a Sunday Times best seller.  

 

Dr Yasir Abbasi: Yasir is WDP’s Executive Medical Director as well as the clinical lead for WDP’s services in the North-West of England. For more than a decade of being a consultant psychiatrist, Dr Abbasi has contributed towards the development of addiction services in the UK and United Arab Emirates (UAE), academia, and increased awareness about mental health and addiction. 

Prior to joining WDP, Dr Abbasi was the director of addiction services at Maudsley Health in Dubai, UAE for three years. He delivered services in the country’s largest mental health facility at Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital and developed the addiction department, introducing one of the first community opioid substitute treatment services in the region.Before his departure to Dubai, he was the clinical director of addiction services at Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust. 

Dr Abbasi also set up the Painkiller Addiction Information Network (PAIN) charity in 2016 which was the only charity at that time raising awareness about painkiller addiction and supported the government to order a review into it. There was a Public Health England (PHE) review in 2019 and he was a part of the expert reference group. He is associated with over 20 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has spoken widely at various national and international scientific conferences across the world. He also presented his views about addiction treatment on various media outlets such TV, radio, and newspapers.

 

Dr. Amit Chopra: Amit is a Psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). Dr. Chopra completed his medical training at Sawai Man Singh College, Jaipur, India in 2003, followed by research and clinical training in UK at King’s College London and University College London between 2003-2007. Dr. Chopra completed his Adult Psychiatry Residency, Sleep Medicine Fellowship, and Deep Brain Stimulation Fellowship at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota in between 2007-2013.

Dr. Chopra has multiple areas of interests including mood disorders, sleep disorders, and brain stimulation interventions for psychiatric disorders. Dr Chopra has served as a Medical Director for Center for Treatment-Resistant Depression and Center for Psychiatric Neuromodulation in addition to his role as a President of Pittsburgh Psychiatric Society prior to him joining MGH. Dr Chopra has received multiple prestigious research and clinical awards for his work including Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Chopra has been invited to regional, national, and international meetings as a speaker and he has also co-authored a book ‘Management of Sleep Disorders in Psychiatry’.

 

We are pleased to announce that we will be running our annual West Midland Clinical Audit / Quality Improvement Prize at this Winter event.

The Prize winner will receive £100.00 and entries are open to the following:

  • Foundation Doctors
  • Psychiatric Trainees
  • Specialty (SAS) Doctors

* Please note the competition is only open to those working within the West Midlands Division. Applications from outside the West Midlands will not be considered.

We would encourage those who register to attend on the day of the event, should they wish to ask questions to our speakers.
