Medical Psychotherapy Faculty Conference 2023: Can the current global crisis bring us all together?

Event Information

We are delighted to welcome you to the Medical Psychotherapy Faculty Annual Conference, 2023; our first in-person Faculty conference for four years. We have a fantastic, truly inclusive programme of talks and workshops for you over these three days, which we hope will appeal to all who place medical psychotherapy at the heart of psychiatry.

The Collins Dictionary word of the year for 2022 was 'permacrisis', defined as 'an extended period of instability and insecurity'. This definition can be extended to include the current feeling of living in an ongoing crisis in the UK or worldwide where there continues to be political unrest, war, climate change and a cost-of-living crisis.

Our intention is to make this conference relevant to the world we are living in, and the challenges we are facing on a daily basis. In relation to the conference theme, we aim to look both inwards to our medical psychotherapy specialty and healthcare-related profession, and outwards to the world around us; focussing on the colleagues we work with and the lived experience of the people whom we treat.

With the above in mind, the conference will have a focus on response to disaster and trauma, the experiences faced by refugees, and doctors in distress.

Throughout the conference there will be a vast amount of intellectual and emotional nourishment through talks, workshops, groups and posters. We aim to offer you all a space to reconnect and reflect during our busy lives. We hope the current crisis will bring us all together once again.
