ICD-11 and Personality Disorders Training

Event Information

This online half-day training course aims to describe the changes in ICD-11 to people meeting diagnostic criteria for personality disorders and the differences in classification with ICD-10. It considers what these changes mean in relation to current clinical practice and their implications in terms of approaches to diagnosis and formulation.

The course will discuss the changes to diagnostic criteria within the context of developing a sensitive and meaningful understanding of people with a diagnosis of personality disorder.

Learning objectives:

  • to be aware of the rationale for changes made to the ICD classification of personality disorders
  • to understand the key differences between ICD-11 and ICD-10, particularly in relation to personality difficulties, disorders and measures of severity
  • to apply the ICD-11 classification to clinical vignettes of people who might meet the diagnostic criteria for personality disorder
  • to describe good practice regarding sharing of formulation and diagnosis in terms of the stigma, discrimination and alienation often experienced by people with complex emotional needs
