Dr Alan Kellas
Consultant Psychiatrist (retired)
I mainly worked in adult LD services from 1990s, also more recently in CAMHS-LD and generic CAMHS, in Bristol and across South West, as a trainer and clinical director.
I offer informal advice or formal mentoring to any individual or group wondering how to bring nature into their practice.
I have been involved with the RCPsych Planetary Health Committee (and the College's Postition Statement on climate and ecological emergency). I helped set up EcoCAMHS within the CAMHS faculty, linked to Wildlife Trust Nature Friendly Schools pilot, and Nature Matters.
Areas of main interest and curiosity for future:
- I am currently involved in developing blue health links. What are the benefits of being in, under, on or near water?
- I want to help nature-based practice become mainstream in psychiatry practice education and research, and help our profession play our part in nature's recovery.
EcoCAMHS-related projects:
- Nature based psychiatry training programmes at Hazelhill Wood
- Circle of life rediscovery
- Advised Green social prescribing pilot
- Local support for practice networks
Favourite place: the Lizard Peninsula, Cornwall
