The RCPsych has been saddened to learn that one of its leading members from Wales, Dr Gary Jenkins, died last week – two weeks after being left with life-threatening injuries following an attack in a park.

Dr Jenkins had been in hospital since the attack in Bute Park, Cardiff, during the early hours of 20 July.

Dr Jenkins, was a father of two, from Cardiff, who was dedicated to his profession. Dr Jenkins had been a member of the College for over 25 years and worked at the East London NHS Foundation Trust for many years, before returning to Wales.

His family and the staff at the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, where he worked, and who cared for Dr Jenkins before his death, have paid tribute to Gary, who was a special and popular member of the RCPsych.

Many members have been left devastated by the news.

RCPsych President Dr Adrian James said: “We are truly sorry to hear about Gary’s tragic death.

“Our thoughts are first with his family, but also with his colleagues and our members in Wales and beyond. Gary will be very much missed by everyone who knew him.”
