Event Information

We welcome you to join us for a day exploring the connections between psychiatry and poetry. Through a variety of practical sessions and fascinating talks we hope to explore how poetry can deepen our work as clinicians in understanding ourselves and our patients.  Poetry strives to provide insight and emotion of the human experience, and what could be more valuable to psychiatrists that this connection and understanding of others.

We will be discovering not only the historical context and looking to specific areas of poetry, but also some of the ways in which poetry is used in current clinical practice.

Speakers will include Professor Femi Oyebode on “The Poetry of Disquiet” and James Whitehead on “Poetry and mental health: the history of an idea” as well as workshops from the charity PoetsIN and professional poet Wendy French.

Places are strictly limited to 50 - please book your place early to avoid disappointment.
