Dr Ashwin Moothedath Asok

Presidential Scholar for Equity and Equality

Ashwin is an ST5 Higher Trainee in General Adult Psychiatry in the West of Scotland. As an International Medical Graduate and a neurodivergent professional, he brings an intersectional lens and lived experience to his work in promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion within psychiatric training.

He has actively contributed to efforts that improve the experience of IMG trainees, with a particular focus on addressing the structural and cultural barriers they face in the NHS. He is also working to raise awareness and improve support for neurodiverse trainees and their supervisors, aiming to reduce stigma—particularly around ADHD—and foster a more inclusive learning environment.

As a Presidential Scholar for Equity and Equality, his projects will focus on enhancing support for neurodiverse professionals in training and evaluating existing frameworks for International Medical Graduates in psychiatry across Scotland. He is also committed to championing intersectional leadership and advancing LGBTQ+ mental health within mental health services.
