Members invited to special event

The College is delighted to be hosting former President of the American Public Health Association, Professor Camara Phyllis Jones, for a special members event next month.

In her former role, in 2016 she launched a National Campaign Against Racism, and that will be part of the discussion she has with the RCPsych’s President Elect, Dr Lade Smith CBE, on 5 June.

Members can attend the event in person at the College’s London office or join remotely.

Professor Jones is now the Leverhulme Visiting Professor at King’s College London.

The campaign she launched in 2016 led to over 260 declarations by local jurisdictions across 41 US states and the District of Columbia that ‘racism is a public health crisis.’

Lade and Camara will be discussing the intersectionality of race and gender on institutional as well as internalised racism in mental health.

The event is brought to you by Women and Mental Health Special Interest Group (WMHSIG) in collaboration with Diversity and Inclusion, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King's College London.

Delegates can arrive from 5.30pm with the event due to take place from 6-8pm.
