Publishing programme seeking new Books Editor

The RCPsych Publishing books programme is looking for a dynamic Books Editor to lead the programme for the next five years.

The books programme is published in partnership with Cambridge University Press, and delivers an average of 15 books per year. Titles from last year include key seminal texts such as Fish’s Clinical Psychopathology, lived experiences such as An Improbable Psychiatrist and guidance including A Clinicians Brief Guide to the Coroners Court and Inquests.

The Books Editor will work closely with the Books Committee, which is compromised of members of the College, including representation from the Psychiatric Resident Doctors Committee, and members of the Publishing team. The purpose of the Committee is to commission and develop the portfolio.

The current Books Editor and Committee Chair, Professor Anne Doherty, says of the Committee:

“Our main aim is to serve the needs of the membership. We publish books that are of interest to the typical frontline psychiatry clinician – they’re not obscure tomes, but books that are relevant to the average person delivering services.”

The closing date for applications for the role of Books Editor is 4 April 2025 and interviews will be held in April–May with appointment before the International Congress in June 2025. More information on how to apply and the job description can be found on our post for members page.

If you are interested in joining the Books Committee as a full member, please contact publishing@rcpsych.ac.uk for more information or submit a CV and covering letter. We encourage representation from the RCPsych faculties.
