Shape the future of mental health policy: apply to be the next RCPsych Registrar

Are you ready to take on an exciting leadership role that makes a real impact?

The College is calling on passionate members to step forward and apply for the prestigious position of RCPsych Registrar.

This is a unique opportunity to influence mental healthcare across the UK, working with colleagues, stakeholders, and the media to drive positive change. The ideal candidate will be a skilled communicator, have a keen eye for detail, and—most importantly—be deeply committed to working with decision makers to improve the lives of people with mental illness and the workforce who treat them.

Current RCPsych Registrar, Dr Trudi Seneviratne OBE, describes the role as “hugely rewarding” and is encouraging members to apply or nominate a colleague. In a new interview, she shares her insights and advice for those considering this incredible opportunity.

Dr Seneviratne said:

“The RCPsych Registrar really gets to turn the dial at a national level so it’s an absolute privilege to hold the position and work alongside College members and staff. We’ve moved mountains on the prevention of mental illness, created a Public Mental Health Implementation Centre and issued numerous College reports in recent years.

“I’m personally proud of our very first position statement on early year’s mental health. We’ve shared it with politicians and are hoping this issue will have a real focus going forwards.

“I have absolutely loved taking policy to a national level, looking after the membership and trying to improve the lives of people who are psychiatrists. It has been a hugely rewarding and humbling experience, and I would wholeheartedly support anyone who wants to do this role.”

Members have just under two weeks left to enter the race or nominate another candidate they think would be right for the role. The nomination window closes at midday on Friday, 14 February.
