The Royal College of Psychiatrists is the professional and educational body for psychiatrists in the United Kingdom. We perform a number of functions critical to the profession and to patients, including setting standards and promoting excellence in psychiatry and mental healthcare; leading, representing and supporting psychiatrists; and working with patients, carers and their organisations.

Our work is central to ensuring the best outcomes for people with mental illness, learning difficulties and developmental disorders through promoting excellent services and supporting the development of outstanding psychiatrists, and being an active voice of psychiatry.

Following the departure of our Chief Executive, Paul Rees MBE, we are now looking for an exceptional individual to provide dynamic leadership to the College. This is an exciting opportunity to provide strategic direction in collaboration with the Board and senior management team, to act as a credible ambassador in representing the profession, and to actively champion equality, diversity, and inclusion for the College and profession as a whole. With day-to-day managerial control of the college, we will look to our Chief Executive to create a positive, empowering and enabling environment for all staff.

The successful candidate will bring a track record of leadership in the medical, educational health or social care sector, with experience leading a multi-disciplinary team and managing budgets. You will have track record of managing multi-partner projects, with complex funding and reporting requirements. With strong alignment to the College’s values, you will be able to build relationships across a wide range of audiences, with a focus on meeting and anticipating members’ needs in a way that supports the College in the future.
