Dr Daniela Almeida Borges

England – West Midlands

Dr Daniela Borges is the current Secretary of the Psychiatric Trainees’ Committee. She is an international medical graduate and a Speciality Registrar in General Adult Psychiatry in the West Midlands. Daniela is interested in developing a holistic psychiatric practice and in improving the care of patients with complex emotional needs. She has always been passionate about changing the culture of medical education to one that prioritises doctors’ wellbeing, and validates and discusses emotional aspects of medical training.

Daniela completed an Integrated MSc in Medicine at the University of Coimbra (Portugal), graduating in 2015. After moving to the UK in 2018, she completed core psychiatry training in the Thames Valley region. She has been involved in trainee representation and medical education throughout her career. Last year, she completed a 12-month part-time role as Wellbeing Trainee Improvement Fellow with HEE Thames Valley working with the regional Professional Support and Wellbeing Service, as well as developing the Trainees4Trainees (T4T) project, which provided peer support groups for doctors in postgraduate training.

In her role, she wants to work with colleagues and the College to broaden the vision and opportunities in psychiatric training, while addressing inequalities experienced by trainees.

Outside of work, she loves to spend time with her husband and her cat, play a good cooperative board game and can’t resist anything with dark chocolate.
