Northern Ireland became 2022 Mindmasters champions last month, a brilliant and brainy end to the College’s first ever quiz between the divisions and devolved nations.

The team from Northern Ireland impressively beat Scotland 150-85 in the final, cheered on by their supporters in a boisterous crowd at Prescot St in London.

College Dean Professor Subodh Dave, whose idea it was to hold the quiz, said:

“As an educator I am a firm believer that education should be fun.

“Congratulations to the team from Northern Ireland, all the semi finalists, and everyone involved in the event – they all contributed to making it a great success.”

The first heats for the competition took place at International Congress in June, with all English Divisions represented and a lively crowd helping to create a fantastic atmosphere.

London, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales won through to the semi finals, which took place hours before the finals, on 28 November.

Our hosts for both occasions were the wonderful Dr Derek Tracy and Dr Suhana Ahmed - entertaining, yet scrupulously fair, throughout the competition.

Professor Dave added:

“I wanted the event to celebrate academic excellence in psychiatry, in a fun way which brings a lot of people together.

“The heats and the final were tremendous fun and we look forward to next year’s competition.”
