Recruiting Regional Advisors

Regional Advisors and Deputy Regional Advisors are senior College positions that represent the College on all matters relating to postgraduate education, professional development and the review and approval of appropriate job descriptions in psychiatric posts.

They are the College’s link with regional postgraduate Deans and Heads of School of Psychiatry concerning issues relating to postgraduate psychiatric education.

Regional Advisors will have a role in providing specialist advice to responsible officers concerning revalidation. The areas covered by Regional Advisors are coterminous with Postgraduate Deaneries in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The College is seeking to recruit the following Regional Advisors and Deputy Regional Advisors:

As well as acting as the College representative on all matters relating to postgraduate education and continuing professional development in psychiatry, Regional Advisors and Deputy Regional Advisors:

  • provide specialist advice to responsible officers when questions are raised about revalidation recommendations for psychiatrists
  • are involved in General Medical Council (GMC) and Deanery / School of Psychiatry Quality Assurance procedures
  • may also play a part in assisting tutors and training programme directors to implement the recommendations.

They also provide advice to trusts concerning job descriptions of new and replacement consultant and specialty doctor posts.

Regional Advisors are ex-officio members of their Division Executive committee, as well as members of the Regional Advisors committee and their local Board of the School of Psychiatry.

  • are a consultant or a specialty doctor that has a current licence to practise from the GMC and
  • are a current member of the College in the relevant Division
