Clinical Audit Awareness Week (CAAW) 2026
To mark CAAW 2026, tomorrow (Friday 26 June), Consultant Clinical Psychiatrist, Dr Karina Allan and RCPsych’s Head of Clinical Audit and Research, Philippa Nunn will be leading a webinar on Building the National Audit of Eating Disorders (NAED): Barriers, Data Quality, and Impact on Services.
It will explore the development of NAED, its key milestones and early findings, challenges around data quality and collection, and how the audit is beginning to drive improvements in eating disorder services through benchmarking, stakeholder engagement and quality improvement initiatives.
The Royal College of Psychiatrists is the home of national clinical audits for mental health services. The audits – National Clinical Audit of Psychosis (NCAP), National Audit of Dementia (NAD) and National Audit of Eating Disorders (NAED) – review and benchmark the quality of care provided by services, identifying variation and giving recommendations for what needs to change to improve care and support for patients.
Philippa said:
“Clinical audits are critical to ensure patients receive the best healthcare quality and safety. They show us, and services, what is working well and where improvement is needed most.
“This helps healthcare professionals raise standards, reduce variations in care and ensures every patient gets the best possible treatment.
“The National Audit of Eating Disorders is already making a significant impact, achieving over 90% participation from services, delivering the first comprehensive national overview of eating disorder provision in England, and establishing a robust benchmarking framework to identify gaps, reduce inequalities, and support earlier access to evidence-based care.“
Clinical Audit Awareness Week is an annual event hosted by Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) that aims to improve and save lives by promoting and celebrating the critical role of clinical audit, registries and other evidence-based improvement.
