Education and Training Committee

Role: The Education and Training Committee is the most senior educational committee within the College, and has overall responsibility for the formulation and ratification of educational policy.

The Education and Training Committee is responsible for all aspects of the education and training of psychiatrists at each stage of their careers, including the monitoring of standards of training at both basic specialist and higher specialist level, overseeing the MRCPsych Examinations, formulating policy regarding Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and determining who is elected as a PMPT, Affiliate, Member or Fellow of the College.

The Committee also ratifies the award of College prizes, endorses lists of Regional Advisers and Representatives, Examiners, and Assessors who participate in Advisory Appointments Committees, and receives the minutes of all educational committees within the College.

Chaired by: The President and the Dean, in rotation.

Revalidation and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Committee

Role: This committee's principal tasks are to formulate policy regarding CPD, co-ordinate, facilitate and develop the CPD activities which are already provided by the College, and to assist members to take advantage of these and many other opportunities that are occurring locally.

The Committee assists with certification, the formation and establishment of peer groups and any other CPD matter which cannot be dealt with locally.

Membership: Director of CPD (Chair), Deputy Chair, Dean, President, one Associate Dean,  CPD Regional Co-ordinators, representatives from the Faculties and Sections, representatives from the Education and Training Standards Committee, representatives from Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland, Affiliates' representative, Non-Consultant Career Grade representative, Editor of Advances in Psychiatric Treatment, Chair or Secretary of the Programmes and Meetings Committee, observers from the General Medical Council and the Irish Psychiatric Training Committee, co-opted members.

Meetings with the Conference of Postgraduate Medical Deans (COPMeD)

Role: To afford the opportunity for Postgraduate Deans to meet regularly with College Officers to discuss matters of mutual interest.

Membership: President, Dean, Registrar, Deputy Registrar (Manpower), Chair of HSTC, Representatives from COPMeD.

Number of meetings per annum: 1-2

Regional Advisors' Committee

Role: Meetings of Regional Advisers and their Deputies are intended as opportunities for an exchange of information to take place between the RAs and their Deputies and College Officers.

Chaired by: The President

Membership: President (Chair), Dean, Registrar, and Regional Advisers and Deputy Regional Advisers from each Division.

Number of meetings per annum: 2

Examinations Sub-Committee

(sub-committees: MCQ Panels; Critical Review Paper Panel, Essay Paper Panel, OSCE Panel, PMP Panel)

Role: Responsible for reviewing the results for the MRCPsych Examinations; approving the question papers; monitoring standards; policy issues.

Chaired by: Chief Examiner

Membership: Chief Examiner, Dean, Deputy Chief Examiners, Chairs of the Panels of ESC, 3 representatives of the Education and Training Committee, co-opted members.
