Event Information

The Sports and Exercise Psychiatry Special Interest Group (SEPSIG) are delighted to invite you to their next conference: SEPSIG16.

The theme of the conference is: Overtraining, Fatigue and Burnout and will feature presentations relevant to the Sports Psychiatrist and all General Psychiatrists in both Sports and Clinical settings.

The programme will include presentations on:

  1. Burnout and fatigue in the highly trained athlete, the associated risk factors for burnout and how to differentiate this from depression – Professor Alan Currie
  2. Chronic fatigue, medically unexplained physical symptoms and the potential for physical activity in recovery – Dr Jacob Ellis
  3. Exercise interventions in a medium secure Unit – Dr Carolina Schneider
  4. What does a Sports Physician need to know about Psychiatry: Reflections from the Paris Olympic games – Dr Carrie McCrea
  5. Plus presentations on online safety and social media use in athletes and behavioural addictions in athletes.

We will also be running our annual poster competition alongside this conference – more details below.

The SEPSIG will be running their annual SEPSIG trainee poster prize competition this year. 

Prizes available to trainees are: a first prize of £150, a second prize of £100 and a third prize of £50.

All posters can be original research, case study, education, training, QI, audit, service evaluation or any sport and/or exercise project that trainees have been involved with. 

All poster submissions should follow the template outlined below:

  • Aims/Background
  • Methods/Case Report
  • Results/Discussion
  • Conclusion

Once accepted, trainees should format their posters on Microsoft PowerPoint and can print them out in A3 size. Alternatively, trainees can contact their local academic/library departments to see whether they can print out their conference poster. Unfortunately, SEPSIG will not be able to reimburse any printing costs.

Please book a ticket to attend the conference and bring your poster along with you. These will be judged and awards presented on the day.

This event is in-person only and unfortunately it won't be recorded, nor will it be possible to view it online.

The event will take place at the College in London where there are lifts and accessible WCs.

Catering will consist of tea, coffee and water during the breaks, and a sandwich lunch.
