Specialty and Sub-Specialty Advisory Committees (SAC/SSAC)
The Specialty Advisory Committees (SACs) and Sub-Specialty Advisory Committees (SSACs) are formed from the Faculties, with their role being to contribute to the training standards for core psychiatry training that has been set by the GMC within the Generic Professional Capabilities Framework and outlined in the RCPsych curriculum.
The SACs/SSACs report to three main committees:
- Educational and Training Committee
- Curriculum and Assessment Committee
- Quality Assurance Committee

What makes an SAC/SSAC?
- Advise on all training matters pertaining to the relevant specialty/subspecialty of Psychiatry.
- Work with other SACs, SSACs, faculties and the Curriculum and Assessment Committee to determine and manage speciality/sub-speciality requirements for trainees.
- Work with deaneries via Heads of Schools and Training Programme Directors (TPDs) and other stakeholders to assess and ensure the quality of training and appropriate support for trainees, reporting to the Quality Assurance Committee.
- Contribute to the development of methods of assessment to ensure curricula requirements are met.
- Develop resources to provide advice and support for trainees who wish to train or actively train within academia. Act as a source of information and support for both trainees and trainers.
- Represent the College/Faculty at intercollegiate committees when necessary
- Each member to support with at least one Externality visit / CESR assessment session per year.
- Feedback on work streams to the Faculty Executive.
