About QuITT

The aims of the QuITT collaborative are to:

  • increase the proportion of patients on inpatient mental health wards, who smoke, who undertake meaningful tobacco treatment
  • work with every NHS Mental Health Trust in England to establish inpatient tobacco dependency services and increase the number of patients in tobacco treatment using quality improvement (QI) methodology with support from dedicated QI Coaches
  • provide opportunities for peer-to-peer learning through quarterly in-person events, where those involved will be invited to share the progress of their projects, ideas they are testing, share challenges and network.

The NCCMH will also be carrying out an evaluation of the seven smoking cessation community sites, established as part of an NHS England pilot, to inform the roll out of future community sites.

The collaborative is being delivered in two rounds over the course of two years, working with a number of Mental Health Trusts in England. Round 1 of this Collaborative launched in November 2022 and Round 2 in January 2024.

Additionally, following the launch of the Round 2 of the Collaborative, we have established the Development Network, a facilitated peer network that will provide resources, information and a learning community to mental health Trusts that have not been able to start their own QuITT QI project but are still interested in improving their support to patients to stop smoking.

Please see below for a list of the 15 Trusts signed up on Round 1, the 16 Trusts that signed up to Round 2, and a total of 16 Trusts that joined the Development Network.

If you have any questions or are interested in joining round 2, please contact quitt@rcpsych.ac.uk.
