UPDATE: Applications for the current Scholar Programme have now closed and we are currently processing applications. We will be running another intake in the Spring of 2023 and we will update this page with more information shortly.

In the meantime, if you have any questions about the programme please contact peter.hand@rcpsych.ac.uk

Are you a trainee with an interest in current affairs and politics? Would you like to develop your skills to be a future leader in mental health? If so you may be interested in applying to join the Royal College of Psychiatrists Parliamentary Scholars Programme.

The programme gives the chance for ST4-6 trainees to spend one day a week at the House of Lords working with Peers with an interest in mental health and intellectual disability to develop leadership and other skills necessary to influence policy on mental health matters.

The RCPsych is very grateful to former President of the College – Baroness Hollins – for helping to set up the scheme and for her ongoing support. We are delighted to be able to offer this opportunity again for 2022/23 to support up to five parliamentary scholars drawn from the range of psychiatric subspecialties to use their special interest sessions to develop experience in these areas.

Applicants are required to submit a CV, a supporting statement to (one side of A4) and complete an application form and send to peter.hand@rcpsych.ac.uk. Further details on the Parliamentary Scholar Programme 2022/23.

If you would like to discuss the Parliamentary Scholar scheme please contact peter.hand@rcpsych.ac.uk.

Closing date for applications is 13 May 2022. Interviews will be held in June or July 2022.
