Child and Adolescent Faculty calls for action on child food poverty

Statement / comment
26 October 2020

As child and adolescent psychiatrists, we note the well-established close association between poverty and mental health difficulties. It is essential for young people’s physical and mental health that they get adequate nutrition – no child in the UK should go hungry. We support Marcus Rashford’s #EndChildFoodPoverty campaign for children to be adequately fed and The End Child Food Poverty Taskforce.

We believe that good nutrition for our children is fundamentally important to their mental well-being, which has already been seriously affected by the recent global pandemic. We think it is crucial for this and future generations that we do as much as we can to help children feel valued and looked after in our society.
