Access to study leave and study budget
The RCPsych Psychiatric Resident Doctors’ Committee (PRDC) organised a national psychiatric resident doctor survey to better understand the experience of resident doctors in accessing study leave and funding across the UK.
The PRDC hoped to promote positive practice across the UK, to minimise disparities within training and improve resident doctor wellbeing, recruitment, and retention.
A significant proportion of resident doctors were not fully aware of important national and regional study leave guidance. In most questions, there was a significant variation of responses between Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and within different regions in England. In some cases, there was also a variation in response percentage based on resident doctors’ characteristics such as being an International Medical Graduate (IMG).
