Professor Mike Crawford



Director of CCQI


Mike Crawford is the Centre Director.  He is a clinical academic with a special interest in service quality and health services research.  He is a Professor of Mental Health at Imperial College London and part time Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist at a specialist treatment service for people with personality disorders at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust.

Acting Head of CCQI

Lucy has worked at the CCQI since 2001, managing a variety of projects, including the Quality Network for Inpatient Child and Adolescent Services, the 'Better Services for People who Self harm' project, 'No Health without Mental Health', the Psychiatric Liaison Accreditation Network and the National Audit of Psychological Therapies. Lucy's interests include self harm and suicide, the relationship between physical and mental health and the involvement of service users and carers in training staff and improving services. Before joining the CCQI, Lucy worked in the research and development department at St George's Hospital Medical School, London.



Senior Programme Manager


Herbie recently joined the CCQI with 15 years management experience within Local Government and the Third Sector and manages quality networks working with child and adolescent and perinatal mental health services. He has a BA in Human Geography and Environmental Biology from De Montfort University. Herbie’s interests include CAMHS, perinatal mental health, enabling environments, Learning Disability’s within standards development and quality improvement.


Dr Alan Quirk



Senior Programme Manager

Alan has a PhD in sociology and has worked as a researcher at the College since 1998.  Alan’s main areas of interest are shared decision-making in psychiatric practice, user and carer experiences of mental health care, qualitative research, questionnaire and interview development, and survey research.

Clinical Lead for Accreditation

Dr Rob Chaplin is a Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry currently working on an inpatient unit for the acute admission of male inpatients of working age at Littlemore Hospital, Oxford. He has been working as the Clinical Lead for Accreditation at the College Centre for Quality Improvement (CCQI) for the last two years, having previously been a Research Fellow at the CCQI for over 10 years. He has interests in improving the admissions of people with mental health problems, the therapeutic alliance, the care of people with learning disabilities and ECT. He has also helped to disseminate the findings of CCQI projects in peer reviewed publications and supervises trainees’ research.
