Dr Ed Beveridge
Presidential Lead for Physical Health
Ed is from London. He trained in medicine at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge and Magdalen College, Oxford. He undertook psychiatric training in North London and has worked as a consultant general adult psychiatrist in inpatient and community settings in London since 2008. Ed is clinical director for hospital services in Barnet, Enfield and Haringey, North London Mental Health Partnership.
Ed has worked on improving the physical health of people living with mental illness for over 10 years. He has led improvement initiatives at local, trust, ICS and regional levels. He was trust lead for physical health in mental health services at CNWL NHS foundation trust. He is co-chair of the pan-London physical health leads’ network and previously led a regional improvement collaborative with Healthy London Partnership. He is clinical lead for mental health at UCLPartners academic health science network and honorary associate professor at UCL. He has taught and presented widely on the subject of improving physical health in people with severe mental illness.
His key objective is to reduce premature mortality among those living with mental illness, by addressing health inequity and inequality, promoting better access to health and care and improving parity of esteem between physical and mental health care across the health and care system. He is passionate about the power of coproduction with experts by experience as a driver of better care.
Ed is a qualified psychosomatic therapist, having trained at the Institut Psychosomatique Pierre Marty, Paris and is a member of the International Psychosomatic Association Pierre Marty (AIPPM).
