Dr Shahid Latif

Chair, Trent Division

Dr Shahid Latif is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Clinical Director for Adult and Forensic services in Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Over an extensive medical career, he has remained a versatile, accomplished and award-winning consultant with the experience to recognize and amalgamate the clinical needs of patients with strategic organisational direction.

Over his career, he has been involved in establishing governance and managing change across a portfolio of roles in mental health care, leading multi-disciplinary teams across multi-cultural environments to champion clinical service transformation resulting in substantial cost savings whilst committed to the highest professional and ethical standards of practice. He has remained at the forefront and involved with recruitment not only within his Trust but also into psychiatry for trainees.

Dr Latif is the current Chair of the RCPsych Trent Division and British Pakistani Psychiatric Association and is an active member of the RCPsych Diaspora Committee. He has done a lot of work on issues related to culture and mental health especially during COVID-19. He led on a project producing videos on management of mental health during lockdown in 17 different languages which are on the College website.

Outside of work, he is on the BBC Asian Network panel of experts on mental health issues and has also been involved with the Pakistan Cricket Board guiding them on the utility of a sports psychologist.

Dr Latif was appointed Fellowship by the Royal College of Psychiatrist in October 2017.
