Nathan Randles

Patient representative

Nathan is the Patient Representative to the council and a medical student at Keele University. Since commencing outpatient CAMHS treatment in 2016, he has immersed himself in patient advocacy, engagement, and activism. Before starting his medical studies, he worked full-time at an NHS Foundation Trust as a Participation Lead, designing, and implementing meaningful participation and engagement structures at every level of a large CAMHS service.

The core facet of his ability to achieve his goals in these fields has been utilising his own lived experience of both poor mental health and receiving treatment from healthcare professionals. He has seen both positive and negative aspects of the system and now works to reconcile the two and ensure that someone can listen to the patient's voice at every level of governance.

Nathan is also heavily engaged in advocacy work outside the health sphere. Formerly a Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sports, Youth Voice Steering Group member, he has become well-versed in engaging with Policy Makers, Civil Servants, and Cabinet Ministers. His work has led to several media engagements - namely with ITV Granada Reports, The Manchester Evening News, and Bauer Medias Hit's Radio
