Making clinical audit data transparent
In his transparency and open data letter to Cabinet Ministers on 7 July 2011, the Prime Minister made a commitment to make clinical audit data available from the national audits within the National Clinical Audit and Patient Outcomes Programme. As part of this commitment, the results of hospitals that participated in the National Audit of Dementia have now been published.
What information is being made available?
Casenote audit results, by participating hospitals in England, and in England & Wales. These data do not include any data about individual patients nor does it contain any patient-identifiable information.
Using and interpreting the data
The data presented in this file requires careful interpretation, and the information should not be looked at in isolation when assessing standards of care.
What does the data cover?
Data available on this page is from rounds of audit carried out in acute general hospital and memory assessment services, and is presented at service or site level (aggregated data/ organisational data).
If you wish to make an enquiry about accessing data from the project, please contact us at NAD@rcpsych.ac.uk.
If a request for data from a third party meets all the following criteria, then HQIP has an ‘information sharing request’ process that can be followed instead of a data access request. The criteria are:
- Data is aggregated and anonymous (small numbers suppressed)
- Data is requested at a national or regional level. Exception: Aggregate data at healthcare provider level can be requested by HQIP’s funders, joint data controllers or commissioned projects (NCAPOP providers and NJR)
- Data is not for publication (although some rare exceptions)
This process is designed to be quicker and easier to navigate but as it does not scrutinise security credentials or provide data sharing safeguards its use is limited.
You can read more about secondary data access for NCAPOP audits here Requesting access to HQIP data - HQIP
