QNPMHS/RCGP Secure Environments Group/SMMGP: Visionable - remote consultation use for clinicians working in prisons and connecting with the community. NHSE Health and Justice has invested in a two year pilot of telemedicine across the entire secure estate in England, including prisons, immigration removal centres and the children and young people secure estate (CYPSE), in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This webinar aims to explain the national rollout programme and the possibilities for clinical use of telemedicine in the secure estate.

This webinar, ‘Managing entry and release from prison’, addresses the specific issues that COVID-19 is creating for people coming into prison and returning back to the community. It covers physical health, mental health and substance misuse.
The webinar involved contributions from Dr Caroline Watson, Dr Stephen Attard, Dr Jake Hard and Dr Anna Hiley, and was co-hosted with the RCGPSEG and SMMGP.
The Beyond Words team have been working on a COVID-19 pictorial toolkit with Dr Caroline Watson, RCGP Clinical Champion for Healthcare in secure environments, and Mr Michael Emmett, a former prisoner. They have co-created a specific COVID-19 secure environments resource kit for use by healthcare teams, prison officers, education staff, chaplaincy teams and peer support workers over the coming months to support residents who find pictures more accessible than the written word.

QNPMHS Webinar #4 – 21 May 2020
In this joint webinar from the Forensic and Prison Quality Networks, Dr Pratish Thakkar, Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist and Dr Steve Barlow, Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist and Clinical Director for the North East New Care Model, discuss the current situation in their prisons and secure hospital.
This includes the current guidance from NHS England and HMPPS about the transfer and remittance of prisoners.
QNPMHS Webinar #3 – 30 April 2020
Dr Sunil Lad, Consultant Counselling Psychologist, Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, shared ideas about how to be trauma-informed during this period. Dr Lad works in several prisons and also supports probation officers in developing a psychological understanding of behaviour.
