Standards

We write standards for psychological therapies services and review them regularly to keep them up-to-date.

Our standards are based on the available literature and discussion with professionals and service users.

What are the standards for?

Our standards are used to review services that take part in our network. We review all kinds of psychological therapies services across the UK.

If you work in an IAPT service in England, there are a few extra standards you’ll be reviewed against. If your service isn’t part of the English IAPT scheme, those standards won’t apply to you.

Standards revision 2022

We are revising our current set of quality standards. The 4th edition was revised in 2019 and we would like to seek your feedback on the new edition as part of our 2022 standards consultation. This is an online consultation ahead of the standards being published later this year. We would like members to provide us with comments and feedback on the current set of APPTS standards and some suggested new additions taken from the College Centre for Quality Improvement.

This is an e-consultation ahead of the standards being published later this year. We would appreciate your feedback on the standards, which specifically focus on:

  • Clarity and grammar
  • Measurability of standards
  • Suggested additions and deletions
  • How applicable the suggested new standards are to APPTS

We have created an e-consultation workbook for you to review our standards and add your comments.

Booking to attend the standards consultation is now open. This will take place on Monday 4 April (10am - 1pm) on MS Teams. If you would like to attend, please complete the booking form and a member of the team will be in touch.
