RCPsych in Northern Ireland has welcomed news of a possible return to power-sharing at the Northern Ireland Assembly.

The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) said power-sharing at Stormont would be restored – subject to new legislation being passed in the UK Parliament.

Dr Richard Wilson, chair of RCPsych NI, said:

"We really welcome this news and hope the restoration of the Executive will result in immediate action for mental health services.

"We need urgent progress and investment in the psychiatry and mental health workforce plans.

"As clinicians working on the frontline, we must see full implementation and funding of the ten year Mental Health Strategy – for the benefit of all our patients across Northern Ireland."
