Our Policy Priorities: No Wrong Door

Our call

"We call on all political parties to recognise there is no health without mental health, to adopt policies that deliver parity between physical and mental health, and work with partners to ensure there is no wrong door for all our diverse communities to accessing the right care, in the right place, at the right time for mental ill health."

The challenge

• Help a population which has faced the trauma of a global pandemic face a resulting spike in mental ill health.
• Work to deliver a mental healthcare system that ensures people with all forms of mental ill health access the right support, in the right place, and at the right time.

How we can meet this challenge

To achieve this, we believe there needs to be:

• a multidisciplinary mental health workforce plan that provides the staffing needed across different settings to provide care at the point of need

• in order to meet increases in mental ill-health as a result of the pandemic, a commitment to 10% of health spending to go to mental health by the end of the next parliament

•  national transitions strategy for our most vulnerable young people, ensuring they can transition into adulthood with the right care and support

• defined community pathways of care and support so people can be swiftly directed to the most appropriate place or person

• a public health-led approach to addressing drug and alcohol addictions, including access to care and treatment for those with a dual diagnosis

• by 2026, use 1% of what we spend on health to support the mental health of our young people through Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).
