NW Division: Competitions for Trainees, Foundation Doctors and Medical Students & SAS Doctors
North West Autumn Competitions will no longer take place at the Autumn Conference 2020 due to changes related to COVID-19. The next North West Competitions will be held at the Autumn Conference 2021 and submissions will open in Summer 2021.
The Division hosts a competition each year at the Autumn Conference.
The competition is open to
- Medical students
- FY1 and FY2 doctors
- Trainees
- SAS Doctors
To be eligible to enter the competition you MUST be working or on placement within the North West Division. This includes Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside. If you are based outside of this area your abstract will not be accepted.
The best poster audit and research presentations will receive a monetary prize and a certificate of merit.

Prize: £200 and a certificate of merit for the best poster presentation.
How often: Annually
Who can enter?: Medical Students/FY1's within North West Division
Where presented: At one of the Academic Conferences – exact date determined by Executive Committee.
Competition rules:
- Poster presentations must be displayed throughout the conference. Entrants are expected to be available for questions from delegates during breaks in the conference.
- Assessors will be members of the Executive Committee. Trainees will be told the result of the competition at the end of the Conference. Prizes and Certificates of Merit will be sent on after the event.
Prize: £200 and a certificate of merit for the best oral and poster presentation.
How often: Annually
Who can enter? FY2/Trainee Psychiatrists within North West Division
Where presented: At one of the Academic Conferences – exact date determined by Executive Committee.
Competition Rules
- Oral presentations on Audit and Research Projects or Reviews of the Literature must be no longer than15 minutes, including time for questions from the floor.
- Poster presentations must be displayed throughout the conference. Trainees are expected to be available for questions from delegates during breaks in the conference.
- Assessors will be members of the Executive Committee. Trainees will learn the result of the competition at the end of the Conference. Prizes and Certificates of Merit will be sent to entrants after the event
