COVID-19 Inquiry: update

This week, the UK Covid-19 Inquiry began evidential hearings for its third module, which is examining the impact of the pandemic on healthcare systems and staff. Hearings for this Module will run until the end of November.

The College has already engaged extensively with Module 3 of the Inquiry, responding to two requests for written statements.

Our engagement has centred on how the pandemic impacted mental health, intellectual disability and autism settings, and where preparation, management, protection and support fell short for all our patients, and also for children and young people in particular.

Additionally, the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AOMRC) is a core participant for this module.

As a result, the Academy can play a greater role in the Inquiry by reviewing the disclosure of evidence, asking questions and making opening and closing statements.

As a member of the AOMRC, we fall under this umbrella and have been working with the AOMRC to ensure mental health is sufficiently represented and considered in the Module.

We will keep you updated on the Module as it proceeds.
